- Pallet rackA (standard) P. essentially consists of the following basic elements: Side or shelf frames with two uprights as well as horizontal and diagonal bracing (also known as cross bracing), welded or bolted connections Longitudinal beams (traverse) to connect the frames and to support the pallets Depth supports, cross beams or shelves between the longitudinal beams if pallets or other units are stored crosswise Safety devices such as push-through protection and lift-out protection, grids, collision protection, lateral elevation of the frame to prevent falling The shelving compartments are often designed to hold three pallets (multi-user storage system). Racking and therefore racking systems are not subject to a building authority approval procedure if they do not have a load-bearing or bracing function for the building or if the racking is not given its stability by the construction of the building (cf. silo construction). If the shelving is manufactured and assembled in accordance with the quality and testing regulations for storage and operating equipment (RAL-RG 614), a structural analysis is not required. The exemption from the building permit requirement only applies up to certain shelf heights (five to twelve meters, upper edge of top support or stored goods) and is not uniformly regulated in the state building regulations.
