As in Brieselang, Erfurt and Mönchengladbach, TUP GmbH & Co. KG (TUP) is also taking over the material flow control for the new Zalando logistics center in Lahr. Trial operation will began in spring 2017.
Construction of the 130,000 square meter mail order center on the former airport grounds of the Canadian army in southern Baden began as early as October 2015. Zalando wanted to create around 1000 jobs in the Upper Rhine region and prepare itself for fast delivery in Southern Germany, France and Switzerland. The listed fashion and shoe mail order company thus built its largest warehouse to date, which was split into a hall for delivery and two connected picking warehouses. The investment costs amounted to approximately 130 million euros.
Proven cooperation with Zalando
After the past projects with Zalando, TUP is already very familiar with the processes and procedures of the online giant. “Our materials handling control system calculates in real-time the fastest route through the materials handling equipment and decides on the routes and responsibilities, always taking into account the available facility resources. This know-how has already proven its worth at Zalando in recent years and we are very much looking forward to the renewed partnership,” said Frank Obschonka, sales manager at TUP.
