Semi-trailer towing vehicle (semi-trailer tractor) has a fifth wheel coupling consisting of a plate with a built-in locking mechanism on which the semi-trailer rests and into which the kingpin of the semi-trailer is coupled. The semi-trailer is thus pivotally connected to the tractor unit.
