Pick-up-Station

In the mail order business, the problem is to be able to deliver and hand over the goods to the recipient without much effort. If the recipient cannot be found for personal delivery, i.e. more than one journey is necessary, or if the shipment (delivery) is too small in value, direct delivery is not “worthwhile” or the customer is not willing to bear the considerable additional costs.
The trend towards smaller orders (atomization of orders) is being driven by Internet commerce (e-commerce) and the failure to reach a recipient is also caused by the social phenomenon of the increasing number of single households.
The pick-up station is a “compromise”. The supplier can leave his goods securely at defined, conveniently located points at any time, and the recipient can pick them up there at any time.
A well-known example is the packing station (https://www.dhl.de/de/privatkunden/pakete-empfangen/an-einem-abholort-empfangen/packstation-empfang.html).
