Temporary storage (buffer store) compensates for fluctuations between inputs and outputs in short time intervals. P. are often used to bridge the time between different work sequences in production. A characteristic feature of buffer storage is the low fluctuation in the number of storage and retrieval operations per time unit with high turnover rates.
