Supply Chain Management

(SCM) is the management of all logistical processes and functions within a supply chain, from the supplier to the consumer, with the aim of efficiently increasing customer benefit and making communication emergent.
SCM is often seen as part of Efficient Consumer Response, particularly in the retail sector. Through cross-process chain communication and joint planning processes (Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment, CPFR), the aim is to reduce inventories along the supply chain, avoid overreactions such as the bullwhip effect and at the same time improve service for the end customer. An important framework for process chain modeling is the SCOR model (Supply Chain Operations Reference Schema). See also http://www.supply-chain.org.
